2017 Golf Day Results

The 2017 Heymo’s 40 Thieves Golf Day was played in probably the best conditions we have experienced in five years. Whilst not exactly sunny, there was the lightest of winds, and the National’s Old Course was showing off its best angles.

104 players rolled out from the Clubhouse including several ladies who were all a fantastic addition, plenty of familiar faces and many new ones.

We welcomed a number of sponsors; Tempur, PMD Financial Advisers, Sleepmakerand AH Beard and the delightful Ash and Glen were back serving those magnificent Kilikanoon Wines.

There was stiff competition at Nearest the Pin holes and for the Longest Drive, especially the Over 55 version!

There were some fantastic results across the board, but after a blinding round led by National Golf Club member and 40 Thieves stalwart Jason Johnson, it was three times in a row for his talented team – Warren Dixon, Trevor Perry and Paddy Hanley with a score of 51.625 net.

2nd Place with a score of 53.25 went to Jason Nicholas, David Tagg, Leighton Warwick and Daniel Popovic (interesting to note that their score would have seen them win the event in 2016).

3rd Place on a countback score of 54.25 was Corey Greenway, John Greenway, Chris Baker and Phil Jamey.

Nearest the Pin (7th Hole) – Mark Mercuri
Nearest the Pin (16th Hole) – Graeme Ireland
Longest Drive (Under 55s) – Mark Dand
Longest Drive (Over 55s) – Marty Merrilees

Back at the 19th hole, prizes were handed out left, right and centre and again the auction items drew spirited bidding.

With thanks to everyone involved in organising, playing and supporting Heymo’s 40 Thieves in 2017, the event raised a tick under $25,000. These funds will be directed to the establishment of a Young Adult and Adolescent Cancer Support Service. Epworth believe that with this significant support the Service will begin operating in the very near future.

Over $105,000 has now been raised for Epworth Cancer Services in the five years we have staged Heymo’s 40 Thieves Golf Day. Congratulations to everyone and our warmest thanks for helping us reach this incredible target.

We wish everyone a safe and happy lead up to Christmas and 2018.

With the help of some spirited auction bidding and some extremely generous donations, this year we have raised over $21,000. The donation will be made in memory of Bruce Heymanson (Heymo) and his brother-in-law, Phil Peel, to the SHRINC Brain Cancer clinical trial being conducted by Epworth Radiation Oncology.

We are truly humbled by the support, loyalty and generosity of all of the 40 Thieves players and supporters. Thanks for being such big-hearted, fabulous people.

2015 Golf Day Results

After a welcome from Greg Heymanson and a warm thank you from Kathleen Lambrick from the Epworth Medical Foundation, 108 players dispersed from the National Clubhouse on Tuesday 27 October 2015. The sun was shining but the coastal winds were challenging for even the most experienced. In the end, it was the team led by 40 Thieves stalwarts Warren Dixon and Jason Johnson who won the day.
